Frequently Asked Questions
When will your 2025 garlic crop be ready?
We expect harvest and fulfillment in early late Aug 2025. Join our community of garlic loves email list below to be the first to know when fresh garlic is available.
What types of garlic do you offer?
At The Good Garlic Company, we grow premium, locally grown Canadian garlic in Lamont County, Alberta (Zone 3b). Our specialty is Hardneck Red Russian Garlic, a bold, flavourful variety perfect for cooking, preserving, and planting.
What’s the difference between garlic powder and garlic scape powder?
Garlic powder is made from dehydrated garlic bulbs and has a classic, bold flavor. Garlic scape powder is made from the green flower stalks and has a milder, slightly sweet garlic taste. Garlic scapes tend to work well for those that can not tolerate garlic or like a milder flavour.
Is your garlic organic?
While we are not yet certified organic, our garlic is naturally grown without pesticides or herbicides. It’s clean, chemical-free, and safe—the same garlic we feed our family and friends.
How long does fresh local garlic last?
When stored correctly, fresh garlic from The Good Garlic Company lasts 6-8 months, maintaining its robust flavour and quality.
How should I store garlic for maximum freshness?
For the longest shelf life, store garlic in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space, away from direct sunlight. A mesh bag or a breathable container works best. Avoid refrigerating garlic, as it can cause premature sprouting. Check out our blog post for more storage tips!
How many garlic bulbs are in 1 lb?
One pound of garlic typically contains 6-9 bulbs, depending on size. Many customers order 10 lbs of garlic to last through the year before we sell out. Shop here.
What’s the difference between seed garlic and eating garlic?
Both come from the same crop! The key difference is that seed garlic consists of the biggest, healthiest bulbs (over 2.5” in size), selected specifically for planting. It’s also tested for disease. Check our blog post to learn more.
Why is garlic shipping so expensive?
We understand the frustration—shipping costs are set by carriers. However, we offer local pickup and delivery in Lamont, Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, and Edmonton. Contact us or follow us on social media for local delivery options.
